In the Norse mythology, two wolves chase the sun and moon. One wolf was name Hati (or “hate” in old Norse) and the second was named Skoll (or “treachery” in old Norse). +
Because the sun and moon chariots did not always run on time, Odin enchanted Skoll to chase the sun, and he enchanted Hati to chase the moon. The wolves chase their chariots each day, always making sure the sun and moon stay on task and on time. +
If Ragnarok comes, both wolves will catch their respective chariots and eat them. Then, Odin’s spell will be broken, and they will be free. +
It was a gorgeous sunset and moon rise tonight in Wausau, WI. As I took photos, this myth came to mind. I was watching one great chase end, and a new great chase begin! Hail!
